| Overview |
Businesses are welcoming useful GUI, collaboration, Web 2.0 features available in the open source
portals. But there are too many technical hurdles either to integrate portals with third party
applications or develop own portal enabled applications. It is as if the choice is power in lieu of
flexibility or flexibility in lieu of powerful tools.
The issue is that SaaS exists on the vendor's platform. If businesses want one SaaS inventory, another for scheduling and a third for CRM they have two basic choices for structure:
- to have information spread across 3 separate vendors sites, or
- purchase licenses for the software and convert/integrate into own web server portal.
But there are actually more hurdles in the way, a fundamental shortage in affordable and costeffective portal enabled applications targeted for different business verticals. Even when such applications are available they are expensive in setup, usage refactoring for conversion and
maintenance.
SoftAspects products can help in leveraging SaaS potential inside open source RIAs and Portal frameworks.
